A ‘Mock European Union Council’ for London schools is being held at the Foreign & Commonwealth Office on 27th November 2008 to give 16-18 year olds from 28 London schools an insight into how the Council of the European Union makes decisions on important issues. The event is organised by the British Council and the European Commission, with the support of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
For the pupils involved, it is an exciting opportunity to take on the role of delegations from Member States, plus the European Commission, and experience speaking in front of their peers in a non-competitive environment.
The first session on climate change is being chaired by Lord Kinnock, Chairman of the British Council and the second session on intercultural dialogue and migration is being chaired by Dr Waqar Azmi OBE, Chairman & Managing Partner of Waterhouse Consulting Group & EU Ambassador for Intercultural Dialogue. “The support of officials from Member States and EU institutions has contributed greatly to the authenticity and educational value of this Mock Council and we’re delighted to be able to support such a worthwhile initiative”, said Rukhsana Kabal, Director at Waterhouse Consulting Group. |
