Dr Waqar Azmi OBE, Chairman and Managing Partner of Waterhouse Consulting Group and EU Ambassador for Intercultural Dialogue is to help launch the first ever UK Standards for Intercultural Working on Tuesday 25th November. The new National Occupational Standards for Intercultural Working has been recently approved by the Government’s UK Commission for Employment and Skills with the aim of promoting these across the UK, to encourage organisations and workplaces to apply the Standards, and to develop training, guidance and qualifications based on them.
The National Standards have been developed by CILT, the national centre for expertise, and the Government’s approved UK Standards Setting Body for languages and intercultural skills. CILT works with employers, service providers, stakeholders and the network of sector bodies to build a greater national capability in languages and intercultural skills for living and working in a global economy.
The UK standards describe the skills, knowledge and understanding required for working with people from different countries or diverse cultures in ways that promote open and respectful interaction, better understanding and improved performance - both in multicultural UK and internationally. They assure quality and professionalism.
