Bulletpoint

Jafar Mirza OBE, Senior Partner at Waterhouse Consulting Group, along with the Minister Rt. Hon. David Lammy, and other key figures, is to contribute to a major national debate on Colleges, Community Cohesion and Preventing Violent Extremism on April 1st 2009 in London.

The key event is being organised by the Learning and Skills Improvement Service to help inform and update colleges on strategies and positive action, to contribute to this agenda. The emphasis will be on sharing good practice about practical steps colleges can take.
The event follows the recent launch of the ‘Learning together to be safe’ toolkit which includes advice on how colleges can promote the values of openness, free debate and tolerance.  Speaking at the launch of the toolkit in February, Secretary of State for Innovation, Universities and Skills, John Denham said: “Further education colleges are at the heart of communities and have a key role to play in isolating and challenging the minority who promote violent extremism”.

“As former Chairman of the Cambridge Regional College, I believe that colleges could play an important role in this area, and this key event will no doubt go a long way in sharing good practice for the benefit of all” said Jafar Mirza OBE.
