Bulletpoint

Waterhouse Consulting Group recently completed a hugely successful, nationwide training programme for the Youth Justice Board (YJB) on the Prevention of Violent Extremism (PVE).

Waterhouse Consulting were commissioned to design and deliver training in this crucial area on behalf of the YJB and in conjunction with the Office for Security and Counter-Terrorism (OSCT) at the Home Office. The training was for individuals working with young people in the criminal justice system: Youth Offending Team (YOT) and Youth Offending Institution (YOI) officers and managers, and YOT funded PVE project workers. The training aimed to:

‘Equip staff with the knowledge and skills needed to identify and refer vulnerable individuals and facilitate appropriate interventions’.

The two-day training was delivered at a number of locations across the country and incorporated a variety of different learning and training methods, such as the use of media, role-plays, group discussion and workshops.

Delegates also had the opportunity to pose any questions around the PVE agenda to a panel of scholars, academics and practitioners, including such prominent and respected contributors in the field as the award-winning journalist, Zaiba Malik; Asim Hafeez, Home Office OSCT Community Advisor; Munir Zamir, ex-extremist recruiter; British-born Imam Yazdani of Islam Channel (IslamiQA); Professor Sara Silvestri, Counter-Terrorism Specialist at City University, London as well as regional and local government office leads on the Prevent agenda.

The feedback Waterhouse Consulting Group received from delegates was overwhelmingly positive. Indeed, on completion of the training course, 90% of delegates stated that the training had been ‘very useful and beneficial’ or ‘useful and beneficial’ to their work. In addition to this, 100% of delegates said that they would recommend this training course to their colleagues. Other typical comments from delegates included:

“This was really well run, professionally led training. It was constantly clear that all the training team were very keen and knowledgeable. Team were always willing to answer questions and allow the group to ask /interrupt”.

“…[Waterhouse Consulting] have a very good understanding and a dynamic training package. Excellent staff who have in-depth knowledge of the subject”.

“A well balanced, well delivered programme with sufficient level of challenge therein”.

Since completing this training a number of public sector bodies have been in touch with us to explore whether we could provide something ‘tailor-made’, suited to their locality to train key staff, members and/or stakeholders on the PVE agenda.

If this applies to you, or you would like to discuss some of the other work that we do; diversity headhunting, diversity training, diversity strategy and research, or conference and event management, then please do not hesitate to contact us to discuss how best we could suit your needs.
