Adjudicators
Closing date: 17th July 2009
The Solicitors Regulation Authority regulates solicitors and solicitors’ firms in England and Wales. Its customers are the public and those it regulates. The SRA is looking to appoint up to five adjudicators (with or without legal qualifications) to make formal decisions in regulatory matters.
All candidates must demonstrate an awareness of the issues faced by sole practitioners and Black and Ethnic Minority solicitors, an understanding of how issues of equality and diversity impact on decision making, and must be committed to maintaining professional integrity and upholding standards for the good of the public. They must have the ability to analyse detailed information to reach objective, fair and well-reasoned conclusions. There may be a need to conduct some oral hearings.
The work will involve attendance at meetings either in London or Leamington Spa and will be remunerated at a rate of £400 per day. UK travel and other reasonable expenses will be reimbursed. There may also be the opportunity for additional desk-based work which would attract a payment of £35 per hour.
Availability: the basic commitment is likely to be between 6 and 12 days per year. Any additional desk-based work would be by arrangement. The commitment will be initially for a three year period, subject to annual review, with the possibility of reappointment for a further period.
The SRA Board is committed to providing equal opportunities for all, irrespective of race, age, disability, gender, marital status, religion, sexual orientation, and to the principle of public appointments on merit with openness and transparency of process.
